Introduction:

The ‘Kids’ Travel and Activity Guide to India’ is a unique guide that has been specifically designed for children to have fun as they travel through India. Each chapter, with its colourful illustrations and photographs, concentrates on a city or state that has been recommended by children who have found exciting activities to do there.

Every section of the guide is focused on entertaining and educating children. The guide encourages children to explore the diversity of India by looking at its geography, history and culture.

All the profit from the sale of this guide goes to supporting childrens’ charities in India. The guide is for sale at INR 650. By deliberately keeping our costs extremely low, the profit from the sale of each book is INR 500. This means that from each and every sale we can make an enormous contribution to the funding of childrens’ charities in India. For more information on the charities that the guide supports please go to our Charities page.

Success Story:

The guide has been a huge success. We have received orders from as far away as Australia, England, Germany and the USA, from not only families but also from organisations, who are using the guide as a method of encouraging employees to go on secondment to India, and from schools who are using the guide as an educational tool. Below are some of the comments that we have received:

“First of all, I wanted to tell you that I think the book is amazing.” – Parent from India

“Congratulations – it looks fabulous! Photos and quality are wonderful – well done.” – Parent from Australia

“Our ES principal is very excited about the book particularly for grades 3 and 4.” - American Embassy School, New Delhi

“The book is terrific.” – IOS Relocations

“On glancing through the [guide] I find it to be a very useful book and [I] am certain children will find it very interesting…I would like to congratulate you and your colleagues on this novel method of contributing to the less fortunate.” - Consulate General of the USA, Chennai.

Please help us to continue this success story by recommending this guide to friends and family that are living in India or are planning to travel to India, to organisations that are planning to send its employees to India on secondment, or to schools that are wanting to teach their pupils about India.

History:

The guide is the unique idea of a group of like-minded friends living in India who in early 2006 wanted to commit to a project that would raise money for childrens’ charities in India. Most of the group have children and were struggling with ideas on where they could take their family for a holiday in India. Using their diverse backgrounds gained working in education, finance, publishing, charitable administration, project management, purchasing and photography the group assembled the guide while working closely with a team of children to ensure that the guide reflected and met the childrens’ needs.

The guide was published in December 2006. It is hoped that this will be the first edition of many!

Future Plans:

We want to continue this project by publishing future editions of the guide. We would be delighted to hear any suggestions or comments (preferably from children) for the second edition!

The first edition of the guide was privately funded. We would also be delighted to hear from publishing houses that could help us publish the guide worldwide.
